Today was day one of the new gig in Springfield MA. 4 concentrated weeks of study before I take the Series 7 - wish me luck!

Good luck!

Series 7 makes as much sense to me as Maroon 5, but good luck! I'm sure it'll be a breeze!
Posted by ConorClockwise on 2007-10-16 16:59:23 +0000
Like Maroon 5, it's not the test itself, it's all the great people you meet.

So far I have tackled Equities and Bonds and I have glanced over at Municipalities. Next is options.
My brain hurts.
Posted by tgl on 2007-10-18 01:01:42 +0000
Option trading, mmm. Good Luck!
Posted by MF DU on 2007-11-08 01:56:13 +0000
So lets see:
Issuing Securities, Investment Companies, Retirement Accounts, Direct Participation Plans, Equities, and bonds are a-ok.
Rules / Regs / Options / Margins (Who's Down with SMA?) / Municipality underwriting - Not so much.
Test date is a week from today.
I just heard somewhere that the average candidate spends 3 months studying and the pass rate is less than 50%.
I need a 70% or better - I should probably take some more practice tests, but my brain hurts.
In case you were curious about my 3 week lack of rideside daytime 'post inflation' , Its pretty much because of study and the IT dept of new employer has http://www.rideside.net:8080 on lockdown. shit.
Posted by pamsterdam on 2007-11-08 06:40:23 +0000
Good luck!!! I'll be crossing everything for you (obviously uncrossing my eyes for my own study pursuits).
Posted by virtue on 2007-11-08 14:30:56 +0000
What are you studying Pamsterdam?
Posted by pamsterdam on 2007-11-08 14:45:05 +0000
*blush*
Bookkeeping. In Dutch.
I blagged my way into a promotion and now I have to "bring it". The bookkeeping is more of a background/logic issue rather than an intrinsic part of the work. Next year I'll be enrolled in a finance management course, and that will be the tough one (but thankfully in English).

You're gonna nail that shit, kid.
Posted by virtue on 2007-11-12 14:09:35 +0000
Maddie Nigs needs more daddy time, so of course you'll nail that shit.
While nothing I can say will ease your test taking anxiety (you'll need years of therapy for that), I do have some left over ativan...Seriously though, the brain works best on a full night's sleep, and cramming doesn't work. So make plans for a nice family dinner the night before the test (or tests, if it's over the course of multiple days) and kick some arcane financial knowledge ass!

I have done my part to help MF Doomlaut prepare.

This is what's great about the Ladew's of Monson:
* You call at 10AM and say you might show up at their door step around 1ish, or 12:30ish... you can't really say but it's completely all right.
* When you do show up, the house is clearly marked with giraffe sculptures.
* Bee tree, blocks, chipmunks, drawing and painting. Madeline is available to play all types of games.
* Maddie is also very helpful with any diaper changing activities you might have planned.
* Photo of drunken BEQ in the water closet (OK, I didn't really see that).
* You can leave for an hour and half, and then come back, and they'll have dinner ready for you.
* Frosty mugs of Sam Adams.
* Chili w/ contractor noises.
* Did I mention cozy?
* Then, they thank _you_.

thanks for the farm stamps! Maddie loves them.
Come back any time (mebbe a bottle of Lorber home brew as an entry fee?)
-the 'Sky Bar' era of Quigley frontman pics is NOT to be fucked with.

OK - going to bed after one Sam Adams, I guess so I can go to glorious Tower Square / Sheraton in Springfield MA for tommorow am. I drove there after work on Friday so I would know how to get there (- There is a sports bar on the 2nd floor, btw) I'll be honest - options stll scare the shit out of me and a couple of my new hire peers took the test on Mon and said there were like 30 questions worth of Municipal Bond regulation legal questions. (Only 1 of 3 who have taken it already this week have made it through).
If I finish before 2:00, Im hoping that said cheesy sports bar will be open.
My brain feels like that 'Dirty Projectors' album all the kids in Japan are raging about...

Posted by MF DU on 2007-11-14 21:30:05 +0000
65% - 5 points from passing - sheesh.
Enhanced study regimen starts tomorrow.
FINRA insists I wait 30 days before retest.
The beatings will continue until morale improves...
Posted by Epoisses on 2007-11-14 21:30:50 +0000
Sorry to hear it.
Posted by cdubrocker on 2007-11-14 21:35:54 +0000
Damn, next time around I bet you'll rock it.
Posted by pamsterdam on 2007-11-15 06:06:03 +0000
Ack! I reckon next time you'll storm 'em. x
Any chance of you seeing this one as a pratice run? Practice makes...
Posted by tommy on 2007-11-15 12:52:25 +0000
Do you get back a report of what you got wrong, so you know what to brush up on, or is it like the SAT where you just get a score, and that's it?
Enhanced study regimens are unstoppable; you'll ace the retest.
Posted by G lib on 2007-11-15 13:31:51 +0000
You will ace this time. I divine it!
Posted by virtue on 2007-11-15 15:44:08 +0000
D'oh! I don't care if you ace it, but I'm sure you'll pass it!
Posted by MF DU on 2007-11-16 03:20:15 +0000
Practice makes lemonade.
Posted by MF DU on 2007-12-15 16:09:04 +0000
Retest is Mon. Dec 17th. Holed up at Pat and Steve's all weekend - currently putting the smackdown on Foreign Currency Options.
Hopefully being in an isolated study immersion for > 48 hours will give me the 5 point spread I need to move on and focus on something besides Series 7 crap.
Posted by MF DU on 2007-12-17 21:49:37 +0000
Apparently a 6 point difference now makes me a 'qualified' registered representative. One of the more difficult "71"'s I've ever had.
Where's the Tylenol?
Posted by virtue on 2007-12-17 22:34:21 +0000
Congratulations!
Have a stiff drink, and put your feet up.
Posted by dyedon8 on 2007-12-17 23:17:20 +0000
Hell yeah!
Posted by tommy on 2007-12-18 01:35:02 +0000
Yeah! Here's to enhanced study regimens
Congrats, DU

In their faces! Next time I see you, I owe you a congratulatory drink.
