The Tigers from Detroit

Detroit's line-up in '08: · Carlos Guillen · Placido Polanco · Edgar Renteria · Miguel Cabrera · Gary Sheffield · Magglio Ordonez · Pudge Rodriguez · Curtis Granderson · Marcus Thames or Jacques Jones Pitching · Bonderman · Verlander · Rodgers · Willis · Robertson Kinda scary....

Agreed. Completely sick lineup -- hopefully Ordonez can continue to smoke the ball like he did last year. Willis works in the context of the team -- he's been subpar for more than a year now, but his 5.00 ERA isn't going to matter when the team is bashing.

How's their defense going to be? Willis's ERA goes up at least a point for changing leagues. I like it best if Willis gets some ABs not counting interleague. It's a shame to take one of the NL's best hitting pitchers away. Nevertheless, they're going to be a lot of fun to watch.

Has that ever happened before? An AL team DHing for someone besides the pitcher on a regular basis? The Brewers had a dude named Brooks Kieschnick (sp?) a few years ago. He was a marginal relief pitcher, but was a better -than-average hitter, so he often pinch-hit for position players, even when he was not pitching. So, it's not totally unheard of for pitchers to get hitting precedent over some position players. Wasn't there an NL team this year batting its pitcher 8th? Maybe the Cardinals?

the manager said he will be used as a pinch hitter in late game situations if the bench is getting thin. however, CAN he DH on days he is pitching? not that they would, but could they?

Not really an answer to tommy, but I'm almost positive Orel Herschiser pinch hit for the Dodgers in the NLCS against the Mets in '88.

If Edgar starts hitting the way he did the last time he played in the AL, they could DH for him on Willis's pitching days.

Le Tigre De Twaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

I cannot imagine Willis' ERA going up a point to six -- he's facing a league of dudes who have by and large never seen his deceptive Tiant-esque shit.

2008 Detroit Tigers could be the punkest thing in Michigan since ? & The Mysterians... Time will tell.

But the real question is Ethan Dussault going to pick Dontrelle Willis again with his first pick in the fantasy draft?

Oh snap!

What's with this team? The Sox 3-1 take this week looked easy, right after a Minn sweep. Is there just no cohesion? Is Jim Leyland that bad as a manager? (I have a lot of respect for Lloyd McClendon, the hitting coach; he was a head manager for 5 years w/ Pittsburg). These guys are in last in the Central (decent division, not great), and I sorta want to root for them, but jeez...

SO glad Verlander didn't fall to me in the draft.

Possibly A[1]'s favorite team outside of Boston. We watched a White Sox v Tigers game a moon ago and he likes The Tigers from Chicago. I haven't been able to get the Detroit part through to him.
