I really have to disagree on this one. Steely Dan is rock music played by people who hate rock music. They are like fingernails on a chalkboard for me. But more arrogant.

That's the thing though - talented people who hate rock music playing rock music are bound to do something wonderful - and IMHO - so the Dan has.

No no no, I'm wrong all the time! But, I think I'm right on this rule of thumb: When making a rock record, you should not spend multiple days in the studio working on the same guitar solo. You should spend about an hour on the solo, then use the rest of the time to snort coke off high school girls' asses or something.
