I could be wrong, but I think I read somewhere that Henson's original inspiration for Animal was Keith Moon.

Dr Teeth = Dr John
Janis = Janis Joplin

i agreee with the inspiration for the characters, but animal was "drummed" by Ronnie Verrell. and i always thought janis was supposed to be kim gordon.
