It's not hyperbole when I say I hope that someone ends this guy in a fit of rage.

Bad day, MFDU?

I don't agree with MF DU, but a maximum possible penalty of 20 years described here seems a bit lenient.

It sounds from the article that 20 years is the max just for the rape charge. They also mention 15 years for "murder by failure to act" in the case of the death of an infant. Presumably, there'd be more prison time for things like kidnapping, false imprisonment, child endangerment/abuse, etc.

The article is not clear about what charges he may face. My reading was that they'd only charge him with one thing. Is Austria (or the EU) different in that you only get charged with once crime, even if you've broken multiple laws?
20+15 for a 72 year old man should be enough, although a prison sentence of "until death in a solitary room" would have more satisfaction.
How could _no_ _one_ suspect? The rest of his family lived above this.

Sentences are also not nearly as strict in Europe as in the US.

What's scary is that this is one of a handful of these kind of cases to come to light in Austria recently. I think it's #3.

Maybe that's why they haven't hit %1 of the population in prison.

Pessimist: I wonder how many other kids are locked in basements right now.
Wow. Thanks for ruining my day.
