The Road

Just finished reading this last night. Stark, sad, and very beautiful. Anyone on the board have a pass at this one?

I'm reading "Shakespeare Wrote For Money" (Nick Hornby) right now, and just finished the chapter in which he writes about this book. From what he had to say, I imagine it is an amazing read, but one for which I may not be emotionally prepared. Considering Hallmark commercials make me cry, is he right?

I cried at the end - it was pretty brutal, but it was so unfettered by bullshit and so genuine in its relationship between the man and his son, that I know it will stay with me for a long time.

I have to admit I'm intrigued... is it more emotionally harrowing, say, than Angela's Ashes? More graphic than Stephen King's It? Those are probably my outer limits. Probably. That being said, now that I've thought this much about it, I'll probably at least try to read it. I fear graphic cannibalism. Just sayin'.

Regrets of MC/Gecko union celebration? No long pig on the menu.

It's on my list, and on my shelf. I've been thinking about reading "Executioner's Song" next, but may have to pick up "The Road" instead. Been struggling to get through "One of Ours," which is neither keeping my attention or making me interested in reading additional Willa Cather. Hopefully it's just bad timing; some books are meant to be read when you can concentrate, and some are just for fun.
