Because they question the Man. They stick it to the Man. They try to wake up the sleeping masses and stir them to action with their highly educated and informed minds. We dont want the American public to question things, we just want to control things, disenfranchise people so our friends and our corporations will have more money and power and we're willing to rig elections, operate smear campaigns, encourage Fear over the electorate or anything else we deem necessary to make sure that you do not listen to these truth telling prophets.

It's funny b/c all the quotes are fake, but it's still true. Overly sincere, earnest rockers are funny (see U2).

I'd be shocked if the staff of The Onion didn't have political views that mirrored mine. Shocked!

well, upon further perusal, they are selling lotsa space to Michael Moore, so Terry still has it in the bag.

However, as far as this particular article goes, I believe most effective (i.e. "funny) satire has to have a pretty good mirror of what is going on. In other words, it's funny because it's true!
