Creative Nonfiction

I am sufficiently entrenched in a genre of literature that I probably would deem 'creative nonfiction'. These books are nonfiction, but still put more of an emphasis the 'story' of a comunity. Such as: Hometown-- Tracy Kidder Boychiks in the Hood : Travels in the Hasidic Underground -- Robert Eisenberg and now: Confederates in the Attic : Dispatches from the Unfinished Civil War -- Tony Horowitz Yes, I am a voyeur.

Tracy Kidder has broken the genre boundaries for almost 3 decades now. "House" is my favorite , but "Soul of the New Machine" was also a fun read, compounded by the fact that my family was good friends with the lead character....

Didn't really like House... Thought Soul of a New Machine was great, though.

I've read most of Tracy Kidder's stuff, as well. 'Among Schoolchildren' is a good read that hasn't been mentioned yet. That Confederates In The Attic book was/is a total trip- have you gotten to the reenactment chapter yet? Funny shit (you know how I think the Civil War is funny.)

I think my most recent favorite part was when they give the order to "resurrect" during the re-enactment. But the hard-cores don't believe in this-- they have to carry their dead off the battlefield.

Thanks for the reviews of the other Kidder books. Here's a suggestion from me to me: "Get thee to a bookstore-ery!"
