They are all nail biters.... 3 runs to go....

Fucking Manny.

Posted by tgl on 2004-10-13 02:39:46 +0000
He'll have to get those two runs back. That'll be: Nixon Cabrera Veritek Mueller Damon Ramirez Christ.

'Tek! Cabrera! ...dare I ask how many blown saves Rivera has against the RS?

ugh.

Posted by tgl on 2004-10-13 02:50:02 +0000
Whatever the number, it hasn't changed. Well, at least we won't see their best pitcher until a possible Game 5.

Man.

Say what you want, the Sox have some character....

Pedro = pissed.

Little shocked that Schilling did so poorly. I guess he _is_ injured. This might explain the addition of Mendoza. I'll echo a thought from the TV broadcast: If the MFY are only up by 1 in the eight after getting 6 1/3 innings of perfect pitching... What are they gonna do if their pitching really ain't that good next time? That being said, Leiber has been pretty good against the RS. Gotta like the at bats at the end of the game. Cabrera getting a single off Rivera might have been the best hit of the game... Varitek woke up, too. I fault (in this order): 1. Saw a lot of swings on the first pitch, especially early on, thinking that the RS were a little too jacked. 2. Manny for not legging it out in the eighth. 3. Francona for not having Myers ready in the eighth.

The Myers thing was pretty inexcusable, I think. As far as swinging at the first pitch, didn't think it was so much of a problem. In the first few innings, you *should* be a little bit more agressive, before the pitcher finds his rhythm. Swinging early against Rivera isn't so bad, either- the alternative is standing still and going 0-2. Pedro has set himself up pretty well for tomorrow's game, and Leiber is spotty. Schilling being hurt- I don't know. Obviously, he was not in good form, but there were reports of him getting shot up with painkiller in the ankle before the game. Why couldn't he push off with no pain? What the hell's going on? Maybe he was just rusty after not pitching for a week or something. We'll see. Lowe not pitching tonight seems to lean towards him starting later on in the series. We'll see.

McCarver namechecking 'Brandon Arroyo' twice was pretty funny.

Watched game 1 in a Korea town bar with a bunch of janqui fans and one mets fan who was rooting for the yanks to lose. I don't root for the yanks to lose, I root for the sox to win. It was a spectacular game albeit a crushing defeat, to come so close. But I think it's important that this game not define the series, i.e. the Sox can't be chasing the janquis and hoping to catch up the whole time. That won't do. They need to step it up and start setting their own pace, hopefully in game 2.

Ahh, Barney Grove. You're like a Belgian in France.

A rare but beautiful post from Mr. Grove. I'm totally moping around the house right now, not knowing what to do with myself. Hilarious.

There was that particularly plucky period when they started playing like they should have been all along. Then it was over. I'm looking forward to tonight, even if I'll have to spend the better part of the game popping antacids and covering my eyes with my fingers...

Nice use of "plucky". Re: tonight You're talking about the baseball game or the debate game?

Posted by G lib on 2004-10-13 13:52:37 +0000
Either one. All was right in the world on Friday-- Propagandatour and I were driving up to New Hampshire witnessing the Ortizzle cleanup and then K-dog crushing Dubs (When listended to on the radio, the winner of the debate wasn't at all in doubt. It wasn't until we listened to the pundits that we realized the winner wasn't so clear when watched on TV). PChippy, Props and I celebrated both victories with bottles of beer. Now, I'm celebrating the loss of my stomach lining with bottles of Pepto Bismol, just waiting for both train wrecks to be over.

the games are good - but Im not sure they are good for my constitution - Jackie argues the same for all the political stuff on TV - maybe Ill try to eatch the Firefighter Denis Leary thing 'Rescue Me' and put the Redsox in PIP tonite..... Good luck on the debates if yr STILL undecided at this point...
