Not that I'm defending any of my relatives who voted
for Bush, but I actually enjoyed growing up in in the
Tennessee Valley, using the cheap electricity provided
by the TVA dams. Not everyone in the south or from
the south is a toothless moron with an AK47 in their
pick-up. In the same vein, every northerner is not an
arrogant ass who has enough taxes taken out to fund
public works projects in other parts of this vast
country. I can tell you that highways in North
Carolina are MUCH better than the highways in
Tennessee, and that roadworks contractors in Boston
are far savvy-er than those in the South. Highways in
the South are only paved or torn-up once in many
years. Here it's every year. Washington Street in
Brighton was ripped-up and repaved each of the three
years I lived there. Don't even get me started on the
Big Dig.
Forget who's better or worse. Forget who voted for
whom. Just remember that I dropped my twang because
no one would take me seriously otherwise here. So
before you start making blanket statements about any
given part of the country, please know that I am still
a liberal even though I came from a place with 6
churches within walking distance of my suburban house
in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains.
Fuck the south? Please. Fuck all this generalizing
bullshit.
